Hat Tips

I had been very busy all October participating in INKtober and had only visited Sprite’s Site a couple of times during the month. When I returned today I found everyone absorbed in trying on hats.

The Twitter Birds were dressing up for the Spring Racing Carnival with the Melbourne Cup which is held on the first Tuesday of November.

The Dabrowski Dogs realised that we would not be doing anything lavish to celebrate Halloween but insisted that they should dress up as they do each year even if only to put on a hat.

Psycho Motor brought out the pumpkin helmet and cape he wore last year.

Imaginational made a tin foil hat to be a match with his little friend Thinks He’s an Alien Black Dog who he always thinks about at this time of year

Sensual was given a green hat but did not think it would be very comfortable to wear.

Emotional was enthusiastic about the dramatic feathers on her glamorous blue bonnet.

And Intellectual felt he must undertake a Master class in Millinery in order to be fully informed about how to create a suitable hat for the occasion.

The Dabrowski Dogs dress up for Halloween 2014

The Dabrowski Dogs always dress up for Halloween This year they have chosen the theme Pumpkins.

Intellectual Dabrowski is dressed as the Bearer of Pumpkin Pi (to as many digits as he can remember)

Psycho Motor Dabrowski is sporting a pumpkin helmet and a gold cape to dress as the Caped Canine Crusader

Emotional Dabrowski, the drama queen, thinks that wearing a carved pumpkin makes her expressiveness shine through

Sensual Dabrowski is scratching his head while deciding what to do with his pumpkin

Imaginational Dabrowski Is sitting on his pumpkin and imagining that it could be a wonderful hover board

The illustrations for this post are ink sketches made for INKtober http://mrjakeparker.com/inktober
Every October, artists all over the world take on the InkTober drawing challenge by doing one ink drawing a day the entire month.
I have been participating in INKtober and posting at least one picture a day on a very friendly and supportive Facebook group where I have my own album

The Dabrowski Dogs dress up again

This year the Dabrowski Dogs have used glow sticks and glow painted skull caps to dress as skeletons for Halloween.

Intellectual Dabrowski thinks it is an excellent idea but is concerned that their costumes are not completely accurate depictions of the canine skeletal structure.

Sensual is complaining that the glow sticks are not comfortable to wear and is quite sure that his costume smells and sounds green!

Emotional is delighted with her costume. She had wanted to wear a mask like she did in 2011 https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2011/10/29/the-dabrowski-dogs-dress-up/
But she is happy wearing the glow sticks and skull cap because she says it give her a rosy glow!

Imaginational Dabrowski likes his blue glow sticks and is thinking about little Thinks He’s An Alien Black Dog and how they celebrated in 2010 https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2010/10/28/gtstoogies-18-how-will-the-dabrowski-dogs-spend-halloween/
He is thinking he should share some of his glow sticks with him to cheer him.

And Psycho Motor says it is much easier to bounce in this costume than it was last year when they all dressed as Lobsters https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2012/10/27/combined-celebrations/

Combined celebrations

There is a double booking for the lobby this weekend – Halloween and the annual Lobby Lobster Fest but Intellectual Dabrowski has a solution. He will be going undercover to work on the puzzle of the Wicked Lemon Wedges and has suggested that the other Dabrowski Dogs should also dress up as Lobsters this year.

So the lobsters will conduct their Lobster Lolly Lobbing competition using Halloween candy and dance the Lobster Quadrille beneath the suspended apples.
The garlic cloves are guarding the windows and the pumpkins have declared the lobby a safe haven place from Jack-o-lantern carvers.
Arachnid is engrossed in spinning decorations for the occasion.

The Memory Elephant is eager to remind everyone about The First Annual Lobby Lobster Fest https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2010/10/07/gtstoogies-15-the-1st-annual-lobster-fest/

And about how the Dabrowski dogs had celebrated at previous Halloween parties

How will the Dabrowski dogs celebrate Halloween?

I’m not sure whose idea it was that all the Dabrowski Dogs should wear a mask and wings of some sort as their costumes for Halloween this year. I suspect it was Emotional who scared herself last year and decided that this year she would wear pretty wings and a mask and then indulged in some emotional blackmail to get all the others to follow the theme.
Sensual co-operated but complained that the material for the wings was very prickly.
Intellectual wanted to build himself a Da Vinci Helicopter costume but ran out of time.
Psycho Motor dressed up as the Masked Superdog and bounced enthusiastically.
And little Imaginational, after considering wearing a lemniscate as a mask in order to get an infinite point of view and a pair of Emotional’s wings, opted for dressing as Snoopy imagining himself to be a kennel top flying ace. You may remember last year
Imaginational dressed up as ET dressing up as a ghost to go Trick and Treating.

#gtstoogies 18 – How will the Dabrowski dogs spend Halloween?

“I’m really confused!” Sprite told me “I don’t know whether to celebrate Halloween or not! I read an article ‘Should Christians celebrate Halloween?’ by Pastor Scott Williams on his Big is the New Small blog http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/2010/10/22/should-christians-celebrate-halloween/

He doesn’t tell you one way or the other. He says people debate about it every year and there are lots of good responses to his post too.

Intellectual Dabrowski was really interested in the whole debate and all the background history and found some great articles on Cybraryman’s page http://cybraryman.com/halloween.html – that Jerry Blumengarten has a page about almost any topic you can name!
There was a very interesting discussion about All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day at http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/family/halloween3.htm

Psycho Motor Dabrowski was just eager to go and play the apple bobbing games.

Sensual Dabrowski was anxious about the candy and the possibility of nut allergy problems after reading ‘Halloween and nut allergies – A scary combination’
and also about the loud noises and scary costumes and wanted me to watch a short video on Safety tips for your pets at

Emotional Dabrowski, the resident drama queen, loves dressing up and acting out various characters; so she had a lovely time covering her face with green face paint (Sensual was anxious about that also!) and putting on a tall black hat to appear as a witch from The Wizard of Oz.
However, when she looked at her reflection in the mirror, she gave herself such a fright that she had to be pacified with doggy treats and we had to consult Dr Michele Borba for tips on ‘How to take the fear out of Halloween’ http://www.micheleborba.com/blog/2008/10/29/how-to-take-the-fear-out-of-halloween/

And dear little Imaginational Dabrowski dressed up as E.T. dressing up as a little ghost to go Trick-or-Treating in the film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. And he thought about how little Thinks He’s an Alien Black Dog had dressed up as a Pluto for Planethood Protester for Sprite’s P Party and how Thinks He’s an Alien Black Dog feels like an alien that had been left behind on Earth like many gifted people feel.
The Wikipedia entry about the film E.T. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.T. says under the heading Themes.

“Other critics found religious parallels between E.T. and Jesus.[34][35] Andrew Nigels described the story of E.T. as “crucifixion by military science” and “resurrection by love and faith”.[36] According to Spielberg biographer Joseph McBride, Universal Pictures appealed directly to the Christian market, with a poster reminiscent of Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam and a logo reading “Peace”.[14] Spielberg answered that he did not intend the film to be a religious parable, joking, “If I ever went to my mother and said, ‘Mom, I’ve made this movie that’s a Christian parable,’ what do you think she’d say? She has a kosher restaurant on Pico and Doheny in Los Angeles.”[33]

As a substantial body of film criticism has built up around E.T., numerous writers have analyzed the film in other ways as well. E.T. has been interpreted as a modern fairy tale[37] and in psychoanalytic terms.[28][37] Producer Kathleen Kennedy noted that an important theme of E.T. is tolerance, which would be central to future Spielberg films such as Schindler’s List.[7] Having been a loner as a teenager, Spielberg described the film as “a minority story”.[38] Spielberg’s characteristic theme of communication is partnered with the ideal of mutual understanding: he has suggested that the story’s central alien-human friendship is an analogy for how real-world adversaries can learn to overcome their differences”

Imaginational Dabrowski decided that he and Thinks He’s an Alien Black Dog would visit the Planetarium together, eat Mobius Bagels and ‘call home’.

“So!” said Sprite “I am not quite sure how I will celebrate Halloween!”
