heresies02

When I arrived at Sprite’s Site today I found things much as they had been when I was here last.

“Where have you been all this time?” demanded Sprite.

It was a reasonable question.
The last time I posted on Sprite’s Site was 1 August last year. That post would have been written in mid-July and set to go live on 1 August for
Hoagies’ August Blog Hop: Gifted Social Issues.
In late July Rainer, my husband of 43 years was admitted to hospital suffering from pancreas and liver cancer and he passed away on Sunday 14 August 2016.

I am now living with my daughter and son-in-law which is great because they are looking after me very well and they have two Stumpy Tail Australian Cattle Dogs and an elderly ginger cat who are great company.

But it meant that at the same time as we were organizing the memorial service and working on winding up Rainer’s affairs we were also packing up and cleaning the home in Rosebud and unpacking and settling in here.

So I have neglected Gifted Resources website, the Gifted Resources Newsletter and the three blogs.

Adding to the difficulties in July my old faithful laptop’s hard drive failed due to old age and being over worked and I lost my list of contacts and some of my favourite programs. My kind brother in law Rick Freitag gave me a new laptop/tablet with Windows 10 and I set to work loading it up and learning the new system.

I am still in the process of learning and working out how best to manage the Gifted Resources website; so until I have it all sorted out I am going to post the Gifted Resources Newsletters on the Gifted Resources blog, starting with the spring 2016 Holiday Programs Newsletter.

“I thought you had gone away and left us!” Sprite said.

“I’m sorry!” I said. “I have been busy and sad and not feeling very creative. What have you been doing?”

“What could I do without you telling me what to think and say and do?” she replied. “I thought you had created us and then just left us alone. Would your creator do that to you?”

We have talked about the differences between me as Sprite’s creator and God as my creator before https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2012/08/28/creator-is-to-creation-is-as/

The main difference is that unlike God, my Creator I am not omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent.

I realize that I am more like the creator described in various heresies which beset the church.

The Puppeteer God

Although my storylines describe Sprite using initiative and acting in ways that surprise me, in truth I dictate all her thoughts, words and actions.
God, my creator gives us free will to think, speak and act.

The Watchmaker God

The intricacies of the watch propose that the watch had an intelligent creator in the same way as the intricacies of the natural world speak of an Intelligent Creator. This analogy is also used to suggest the heresy that God designed the creation, set it on its course and then ignored it and now allows it to run according to the laws of nature which He had installed.
It describes a God who is transcendent but never immanent.
It fails to account for God’s continued presence in and ongoing sustaining and interaction with His creation.
I acknowledge that I have been acting in the manner of the watchmaker lately.

The Absent God

This heresy suggests that because evil things are happening in the world it indicates that God has either died or gone away.
It denies that God is infinite, eternal and omnipresent.
We have talked in the past https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2014/08/16/donkeys-live-a-long-time-5-intermission/ about the fact that I will not live forever and at some point will go away.
“Will I die when you die?” Sprite had asked.
I had never contemplated having a discussion about the likelihood or otherwise of a fictional character living after the author’s death with said fictional character.
“I don’t know!” I said.
However I know I have the promise from God, my Creator that he will never leave or forsake me.

Yearning

yearning

Sprite was quite offended by my post about her suffering from Realism Envy or Dimension Envy https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2014/11/16/realism-envy/ and she made sure I knew it!

“Is envy the same thing as covetousness?” Sprite asked me

After I had checked a thesaurus I said “Yes”

Envy: as a noun – jealousy, greed, as a verb – covet, desire, be jealous of

Covet: desire, want, long for, crave”
“And ‘Thou shalt not COVET’ is the tenth commandment, isn’t it?” she continued.
“I remember that because when we talked about mnemonics you showed me how the number ten looks like a fork and a plate and said it reminds you not to want what other people have on their plate.

covet02

So that means Jews and Christians think coveting is a sin. And I looked up other religions too and they also say it is a sin to covet.”

“But I just want to be REAL and I want to be able to be in the same dimension as you, my creator, like Persona Doll Sprite is!”
“It is the same as Pinocchio wanting to be a real boy or  you wanting to go to Heaven and be with your Creator. I don’t think that is a sin!”

“So I don’t want you to say I have envy. I want you to say I am YEARNING.”

That’s what it’s all about: Easter

easter1401

Sprite’s Easter holiday homework was to write an essay with the title ‘That’s what it’s all about!’ It really made me think! For Christians Easter is the celebration of the events that are at the very core of our faith – that Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday and rose again in accordance with the scriptures in order to reconcile mankind with God. It is best summed up by the ‘Gospel in a nutshell’ verse John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not die but have eternal life.

For Christians Easter = that’s what it’s all about!

Read all about it in The Holy Bible Matthew Chapters 27-28 Mark Chapters 15-16 Luke Chapters 23-24 John Chapters 19-21

Happy Easter!

There is great rejoicing in the Tweet family and among their Twitter bird friends today.

Tweetelle’s caterpillar pet which was thought to be dead only a couple of days ago has emerged from its chrysalis as a beautiful Monarch butterfly!

It has been photographed by Kenneth Dwain Harrelson and the image included in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarch_butterfly

And Tweetelle has been promised that she can have another caterpillar pet.

“You know,” said Pastor Twitter Bird “This happening has many similarities to the events of Good Friday and the first Easter Sunday!”

Creator is to creation as….

I enjoy analogies and ratios.
They were my favourite questions on the multiple choice general intelligence tests.
You know, like

Dog is to Puppy as Cat is to ———-
or
8:2 as 27: ———–

I also like analogies that help to describe and explain something unknown in terms of something that is known and understood.
Stephanie Tolan’s article “Is it a cheetah?” is a great example which explains and describes a gifted person by analogy to a cheetah.
There is a great collection of analogies for giftedness in the Analogy Anthology at Hoagies website http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/analogies.htm

The parables told by Jesus are similar to analogies – earthly stories with Heavenly meanings we were told at school. Jesus helped the people understand God and Heaven by telling stories about sowing seed and finding lost treasures.

But sometimes analogies are inaccurate or do not give a full explanation.

And an example of this which occurred to me recently was that of my relationship and consequent responsibilities to Sprite.
God is my Creator and I am Sprite’s creator.
However it would not be accurate to say
God the Creator is to Jo as Jo is to Sprite.

The main reason for this is that I do not have any of the Omnis which are attributes of God. God is Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent and I am not!

It was clearly demonstrated that although I am Sprite’s creator I am not able to physically travel to her dimension
 https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2010/04/17/interdimensional-travel-easter-devotional/

When Sprite said “Please promise that you won’t forget about us if you get all involved with using the other blog!”
And I replied “Of course I won’t forget you!”
it brought to mind my Creator God’s promise that he would always be with us and would never abandon us.

This brought to mind an analogy relating to God which in my opinion has some flaws – that of God as the Watchmaker.
The intricacies of the watch propose that the watch had an intelligent creator in the same way as the intricacies of the natural world speak of an Intelligent Creator.

However this analogy is also used to suggest that God designed the creation, set it on its course and then ignored it and now allows it to run according to the laws of nature which He had installed.
It describes a God who is transcendent but never immanent.
It fails to account for God’s continued presence in and ongoing sustaining and interaction with His creation.

House warming gifts

“People keep asking me what you would like to receive as housewarming gifts!” Sprite told me.
“I don’t know what you want; so I asked the others.”

“Oliver Moremouse said you want cheese platters, One Twitter Bird said you want Dr Jeff’s 21C water cooler set up again and Tweet and Retweet said you wanted a nest with a pink egg and a blue egg!”

“Psycho Motor Dabrowski said you want a trampoline, Intellectual Dabrowski said you want stacks of puzzles and educational games, Sensual Dabrowski said you want vouchers for Lavender Lathers at Poise for Poise Parlour and Emotional Dabrowski said you want lots of masks for theatrical performances.”

“Imaginational Dabrowski rattled on about how you would want world peace and for things to be ‘on Earth as it is in Heaven’. Intellectual asked if that meant you would want gold pavements and Imaginational said only literalist materialists and concrete thinkers would want gold pavements; so he didn’t think you would want that!”

“So I don’t know what to tell people about gifts but I have set up the chocolate fountain and the coffee machine for you.
Oh and I gave you a pot of lavender because I know you always like to have lavender bushes and herbs growing in your garden.”
