Best Australian Blogs 2012 Part 3

Voting for the People’s Choice Awards in The Sydney Writers’ Centre Best Australian Blogs 2012 competition has opened  and Sprite’s shiny new Vote for Me button has arrived and been unveiled at a garden party.
Click on the picture to see an enlargement of it.

The full Twitter Bird Band was not available for the garden party but will be giving a concert performance during Sprite’s campaign. However the players of the baby grand piano did provide background music for the garden party.

As Sprite’s Site is entered in the Parenting section and the Tweet Family are in the spotlight Sprite suggested that Tweet and Retweet’s wedding photo albums ( https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2011/08/20/twitter-bird-wedding-album-1/ and following posts) should be on display. She also wanted to show off the photo of her trip to Denmark and the news report of her time on Survivor- Gifted Island .

The Tree Octopus and Pro Lobster Lobby put in an appearance for the occasion. The Memory Elephant is filling the role of Photographer Pachyderm to record memories of Sprite’s campaign and the Origami Secretary Bird is the Campaign Secretary. Columbus Cheetah is there to encourage everyone to ‘Vote for Sprite Fast’

Sprite in Denmark!

Last night, as I was checking Facebook and describing Sprite’s plans for her Best Australian Blogs 2012 competition campaign, I received a message in the chat box from Hilde Buys alerting me that Sprite was now in Denmark – appearing on Hilde’s Twice Exceptional Denmark blog  sharing about Reading to Dogs (which Sprite discussed at https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/reading-to-dogs/ )  in a post titled ‘Læsning til hunden med Sprite og 2e-footsteps’  at http://2e-giftedogdiagnose.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/lsning-med-sprite.html

Hilde said that Sprite had been a great help to her!
Sprite was thrilled to be able to visit Denmark and even wore the purple riding boot from the De Bono 6 Action Shoes Collection for the occasion.  It has been one of her aspirations that her experiences would prove to be helpful and maybe provide some inspiration to others like herself.

Best Australian Blogs 2012 Part 2

Sprite  has been very busy participating in the  training of the Dabrowski dogs to become Read to Me dogs https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/reading-to-dogs/ and has not been spending much time working on her campaign for the Sydney Writers’ Centre  Best Australian Blogs 2012 competition.

So yesterday, when she realised that the voting for the People’s Choice Awards would begin on Friday 13th, she held a planning meeting to discuss her strategies. Click on the picture to see an enlargement of it.
The Memory Elephant  recalled the methods she used last year and Intellectual Dabrowski  helped to evaluate their usefulness and whether or not they could be used again this year.

Last year’s strategies included
sprucing up the blog https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/sprucing-up-sprites-site/  displaying a campaign poster
attracting visitors to the site using a trail of Easter eggs https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2011/04/21/how-to-vote-for-sprite-3/
pork barrelling https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2011/04/29/how-to-vote-for-sprite-4/
glad handing and baby kissing https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/how-to-vote-for-sprite-5/

This year, instead of the Easter eggs, Sprite has decided to use a line of solar garden lights to attract visitors to the site.
Her new campaign poster has been created

It was decided that, as Sprite’s Site blog had been entered in the Parenting section of the competition, the Tweet family nest should be spotlighted.

Activities planned for the campaign include
*  a Garden Party for the unveiling of the Voting Button
* a concert performance by the Twitter Bird Band
* a Lobster Lolly Lobbing competition

The details about how to vote for Sprite will be revealed during the unveiling of the Voting Button.

Avatar Album 2

A bit over a year ago after participating in a SerendipEd webinar http://johart1.edublogs.org/2011/03/05/edublogs-serendipity-webinar-overview-avatars-and-vokis/  about creating Voki and avatars I created an Avatar Album for Sprite https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2011/03/05/avatar-album/

Recently the topic was revisited on the webinar http://johart1.edublogs.org/2012/03/24/edublogs-webinar-overview-a-look-at-some-avatar-makers/ and although I only attended the last few minutes I learned of several avatar creators which I had not previously seen

So Sprite posed again for a portrait and a campaign poster for the Best Australian Blogs 2012 competition http://www.sydneywriterscentre.com.au/bloggingcomp/index.html  and she was very pleased with the results

Here she is holding her portrait which was created using Flashface
http://flashface.ctapt.de/

I tried out several of the avatar creators mentioned by Jerry Blumengarten (@cybraryman1) on his “My Avatars page” which he added after the session to his already amazing collection of pages of useful education related links.

I am ashamed to say I cannot remember which avatar creator yielded this image but Sprite liked it enough to use it for her campaign poster for Best Australian Blogs 2012

And despite Sprite’s aversion to pictures of people which are too cartoonified and animals which are anthropomorphised https://spritessite.wordpress.com/2009/08/14/elephants-in-the-waiting-room/ she does love to dress up for Build Your Wild Self http://www.buildyourwildself.com/
So we revisited that site and she had fun dressing up as a butterfly peacock!

Best Australian Blogs 2012

We all had so much fun with the Best Australian Blogs 2011 competition (see the posts with the Best Australian Blogs 2011 tag)  that Sprite was very happy to be nominated for the Best Australian Blogs 2012 competition. This year Sprite’s Site blog is entered in the Parenting section since the Competition Details page advised

Personal and Lifestyle
Blogs about your life, hobbies and personal interests. This is the category for: online journal style blogs; blogs about your life; travel; food and dining; and hobby blogs. If your blog is about any or all of these topics, but you also blog about parenthood and kids, we recommend you enter the parenting category.

Parenting
While parenting blogs fit in the Personal and Lifestyle category, we believe this booming part of the blogosphere deserves its own category. The parenting blog space is packed with great writing on a range of topics not just limited to parenting and kids, and is by far the most networked and sponsor-targeted part of the blogosphere.

We decided that as we had been highlighting the family life of Tweet and Retweet and their tweetlets, Tweetil and Tweetelle, as well as issues relating to parenting  gifted and twice-exceptional students like Sprite that Sprite’s Site would fit into the Parenting category.

You will notice that further sprucing has been done to the site and that Sprite has organised a new campaign poster for herself.

We will keep you posted about all the activities in her campaign and about how you can Vote for Sprite when the People’s Choice Award voting opens on Friday 13 April.

If you have entered Sprite’s Site by following a link to a specific post you will need to click on the title on the blue Sprite’s Site header  to see the sidebar.
