The Twitter Birds have brought a special delivery parcel to Sprite’s Site to help Sprite celebrate Autism Awareness Month and share information about autism. http://www.autismawareness.com.au/events/current_events_and_campaigns
As well as a new soft toy bear friend for Sprite the box contained lots of blue balloons and information about ‘What are you doing?’, a short film created by Autism Awareness Australia. It was written by Michael Whelan and narrated by Tom Gleisner, and aims to teach school-aged children about acceptance and understanding of their peers with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ‘What are you doing?’, along with accompanying teaching materials, has been distributed to every school in Australia, totalling over 10,000 copies nationwide. There was also news of a specially adapted performance of the musical The Lion King which will be suitable for people on the autism spectrum and their families to see the award-winning production in a friendly and supportive environment. Trained staff will be on hand, and dedicated quiet and activity areas set up, should anyone need to leave their seats.
Slight adjustments to the production include removal of strobe lighting, reduction of any jarring sounds and lights focused into the audience, house lights being dimmed and flexibility to bring your own snacks.

We even shone blue lights on the arch in the garden to support Light it up Blue.
